WRITEON FOR JANUARY 8, 2020
sister alies.
One week in and...rain and…well no tornado! That’s always very good news to me! Hope all your various celebrations were filled with joy and surprises. I was complaining (as I am wont to do on occasion) that I missed Christmas Pudding (a favorite when I worked in England). The very next day, a parcel arrived from a friend in England and in it (among other things) was a 1” crocheted Christmas pudding with a wrapped chocolate inside. I laughed out loud and thanked God for listening to my selfish little laments!
I heard a story about a man and his girlfriend…he was 92 and she 89, who planned to be married. They went to the drug store and asked if she had aspirin, cold medicine, vitamins, etc. The pharm replied, yes. He asked if they had canes, wheelchairs and commodes, and some other things. Again, yes. Finally he wanted to be sure they took Medicare and again, yes. The pharmacist looked at them curiously and asked why they needed all this to get married. Well, he said, we had to check to be sure so we could use you as our bridal registry! Funny!! I liked it.
2020 who would have thought?…so many 100 year type anniversaries…including the 19th amendment that allowed women (white) women to vote! African Americans were not admitted until the Voting Rights Act in Aug, 1965.
A decade is quite a long time. Where were you in 2010? What were you doing that you can’t do now? What were you doing that helped you do what you do now? Where were you living? Did you have kids at home? Maybe you were in college? What job came of that? Maybe you fed the hungry or helped the Girl Scouts? Did you do some art, or build a house? Did you care for someone dying or help with HEADSTART? Did you travel to another country or state? Did you make music or read a lot of books? Maybe you got married? Just what did you do over the last 10 years? Did you do things you want to hold onto or let go? Are there things in this new decade that needs doing or new ones for you to try?
Whatever you did or didn’t do, that decade is now passed and you have the opportunity to expand your horizons both for yourself and for others. Take a chance and try something new…as you look back on those risks you didn’t take.
BE FILLED WITH JOY. BLESSINGS.
