WRITEON FOR JANUARY 1, 2020
sister alies.
It is new year… perhaps you celebrated last night? What will make it new besides the chronological change? Resolutions? Maybe. U? What can I possibly do in 2020 that I haven’t been doing before? Well…you know, I can try to behave myself, as several ‘friends’ have encouraged me! Maybe, but that’s never worked too well for me! I’d like to not fall down and break my bones. That would be a change. I’d like to be more thoughtful and not say the ‘wrong’ things. Easier said than done. I’d really like to grow in compassion and ditch the selfishness.
One of the stories I heard (I’m paraphrasing) over Christmas, was about a fellow, a park ranger, who watched after the elephants on a reservation in Kenya. They kept being poached and killed and it broke his heart…so he decided to live on the reservation with them…you get it, I know. Jesus came to live with us…not that we’re a herd of elephants.
Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of our sweet Girlfriend, Lynn Wise. We, along with her many friends and family, still miss her deeply. She brought out the good in everyone she met. She laughed and was not above a few practical jokes…I guess I’d like to be more like her this year.
Another story I heard was about a man who was badly burned in a fire and because his face was so affected he refused to go out. His wife went to the plastic surgeon, not to ask for more surgery for him, but to disfigure her face so that they might share the pain together and discover the joy as well. I know you get this one…Jesus saw our disfigurement and came to the rescue, willing to be disfigured on the Cross (among other places).
Wishing all our readers a blest new year of growing and serving, of sharing and healing, of hope and kindness.
Another story goes like this. A very poor couple were each trying to discover what to buy the other for Christmas. The woman had noticed her husband had a watch but no band. She was beautiful with full long hair. For money she sold her hair and bought the band. Her husband loved her and decided to buy her some beautiful ribbons for her hair but he had nothing. He sold his watch and bought the ribbons. On Christmas morning, they shared their gifts much to the surprise of each other…
What does it mean to give all you have? Maybe that will be part of your new year’s discovery?
BLESSINGS.
