January
The month starts out with the Community Outreach group and Welcome Club meeting. We always have new ones that come in and we want to welcome them.
We also had our Monday night Bingo Night. The room is getting full; people are catching on that it’s on Monday nights. We might even miss the news for bingo! On Tuesday we had Hymn Time; it’s always good. We had Linda Early with us today; we’ve been missing her.
On Thursday we had the Heavenly Highway Singers come; we always enjoy this time. Ivy Jo Moore was in the room and just a singing along. We enjoyed that. She was a volunteer here for years and always came with the Heavenly Highway Singers. That weekend a tornado hit outside of Batesville. I always hate when those hit. I don’t think there was a lot of damage; thank the good Lord for that.
The next week was craft time. I always ride on in there just to see what’s going on but I had to decline this time. Brother Rob Faulk came in and always lifts our spirits. We had a special guest with Donnie Buckner this week. I think his name was Robert Box. We thank them for coming in, always good to have new people coming in.
Speaking of new people we need some Friday night entertainment. We have had some cancellations and we have enjoyed this time for new singers. Let Leslie know if you’re interested. We have a good time!
It was time for the Leslies to take us on a virtual trip somewhere again and this time we went to Texas. That morning we were entertained by a country singer by the name of Walter Herbison, who came all the way from Brandon and is also president of Joy Outreach Ministries in Jackson. We want him back; he sings and tells jokes even I haven’t heard. That afternoon we enjoyed some good ole Texas chili pies and Dr. Pepper. Did you know it originated in Texas?
The next week we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day and went over lots of facts and trivia, and that afternoon brought the famous Penny Auction from Kindred Hospice. We have so many people helping us with bingo now and we are so thankful, Mississippi HomeCare and Legacy Hospice. We do enjoy those prizes so thank you.
We also had a wonderful memorial service with help from Kindred Hospice at the end of the month so we could honor our friends that have passed. We enjoy inviting the family members back and it’s our time to remember our friends.
On another note, I saw a deer out my window. Behind a tree by my window were some deer. About 120 yards they were going east to west. From my window I can see the north side of Bank of Kilmichael so you can see they were in a populated place.
This reminds me of when I was in Florida and worked on an orange ranch. I worked 10 years in orange orchards. There were deer galore there. We would even have paid hunters to come in and participate in special hunts. The hunts were according to how many acres you wanted to hunt. Some acres cost more than others, and where I was was loaded with oranges and grapefruits.
They were in rows 25 feet apart so you could see to hit the deer. You had to catch them still though. Not me. I saw so many I would just throw oranges at them to make them run away.
