On Saturday, March 2, Lollars Grove Baptist Church hosted The Cross of Christ barbecue lunch. Calvary Baptist Church cohosted the event with Lollars Grove.
An outpouring of folks came and ate at the church fellowship hall and others carried out lunches. Boston butts were sold separately and orders were also taken that day for more whole Boston butts.
The food was delicious, the folks preparing the meals were excellent hosts and the Lord was glorified in this event that supported donations for The Cross of Christ roadside cross project.
The Rev. Willy Weddle pastor of Lollars Grove Church, is quoted stating, “The people of Calvary and Lollars Grove Baptist churches were happy to host this event. We made the decision to pay all the costs and let 100 percent of the donations go to The Cross of Christ. We felt the presence and power of God as we planned and implemented this event.”
The event raised over $7,000 for The Cross of Christ.
The Cross of Christ leadership team recommends churches in the Choctaw, Webster and surrounding areas create events such as this to support the fund for cross construction. Partnering with other churches brings more people in for event support. Folks from Webster, Choctaw and other counties attended the barbecue lunch. A spirit of love, giving and fellowship was apparent for all those who participated.
The Cross of Christ will be located at the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 9, northwest side. It will be 12 stories high and 64 feet wide. May all who pass the cross be reminded of the great love sacrifice of our Lord. All glory to God!
