Kiwanis International has a new chapter in Louisville after a previous one was closed. In October 2021, a previous member who benefited from Kiwanis thought she would gather some Louisville residents and start a new chapter. That person, Glendia Cooper, is now the president of the Kiwanis Club of Louisville.
On June 16, 2022, the club was presented its charter and a banner to Glendia Cooper at the celebration with charter members and guests at the Winston County Extension Office. Introductions were made by Lt. Gov. Ralph Carter. The charter was presented by Gov. Rick Latiolais. Rogena Mitchell, club opening specialist, was very instrumental in helping to get the club started and helping in recruitment of charter members. Judge Robert Beck, Eugene Crosby, vice mayor; and Billy Metts, Trojan for Life, greeted the group.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time. The Louisville Club has completed some projects that will be presented in an upcoming article. The regular meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Louisville is the third Thursday of each month.
