The Choctaw County boys basketball led Tishomingo County 34-18 at the half, but the Chargers were outscored 51-15 in the second half of a 69-49 loss at the East Webster Shootout.
“We just fell apart,” said coach Gary Beals. “We took bad shots. We didn’t make good decisions.”
The Chargers were 5 of 28 on three-point attempts, 2 of 18 in the second half. “That’s way too many. We did not look inside to get the ball inside. That’s not our repertoire. I think the long layoff (10 days) hurt us. We ran out of gas and they started making shots.”
Tishomingo was 19 of 37 from the floor in the second half, led by Eli Sanderson who made five of six 3-point shots and scored 22 points. Zavier Coleman had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists for Choctaw County, while Kendall Coleman 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals for the Chargers.
The Chargers and Lady Chargers have games at Choctaw Central Friday. It will be the first action since Dec. 17 for the girls. The Choctaw Central girls are the state’s top ranked team according to the website MaxPreps.
The Chargers play Okolona at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Houston Classic.

The Grace Christian boys basketball team split two games at the Impact Sports Christmas Invitational with a 46-44 victory over Pickens Academy of Alabama and a 51-38 loss to Kemper Academy.
"We were a little inconsistent at the tournament," said coach Jason Morgan. "Spotty transition defense against Kemper and poor rebounding both games."
But he added, “We are moving in the right direction."
Brothers Asher and Jacob Hogue returned to the lineup and combined for 18 points against Pickens. They had been sidelined since November with wrist injuries.
The girls team will play in a tournament at Meridian Home School gym Saturday. The Lady Eagles will play the host team, Mt. Zion and Laurel Home School in round robin play.
The next game for the Eagles will be next Tuesday at Laurel Home School.
