A strong field for the 2020 Mid-Mississippi Challenge hosted by Choctaw County includes the defending girls 4A state champion and four of the top 11 girls teams in the state. There are also four members of the Clarion Ledger's Dandy Dozen playing for teams in the field.
Five girls games and four boys games will be played Saturday, Jan. 18. The schedule is as follows:
9:30 a.m. – East Webster vs. Lousiville girls
11 a.m – East Webster vs. Winona boys
12:20 p.m. – New Site vs. Holmes Central girls
1:40 p.m. – Choctaw Central vs. Ripley boys
3 p.m. – Choctaw Central vs. Meridian girls
4:20 p.m. – Pontotoc vs. Germantown girls
5:40 p.m. – Pontotoc vs. Southeast Lauderdale boys
7 p.m. – Choctaw County vs. Tupelo Christan girls
8:40 p.m. – Choctaw County vs. Louisville boys
Louisville is the defending MHSAA 4A girls champions. Current state girls rankings by the website MaxPreps have Choctaw Central third, Meridian fourth, Pontotoc seventh and New Site 11th. Meridian is top ranked for 6A schools, Choctaw Central and Pontotoc one-two in 4A and New Site number one in 2A.
Dandy Dozen girls playing for teams in the tournament are LaGenesis Johnson of Choctaw Central, Ti'lan Boler of Meridian, Areyanna Hunter of Louisville, and DeeDee Shephard of Pontotoc.
