Friday at the Maben Public Library we read a story by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowycz. The name of this book was “The Lion Who Wanted to Love.”
Instead of hunting his prey, he wanted to help the animals. He saved a herd of antelope from leopards. He hid two young ones in a cave so the leopards wouldn’t eat them. They said he was the friendliest lion they had ever met.
Leo the lion liked making friends in the jungle. He led hippos to the watering hole and taught baby birds how to fly. One day he saw a cheetah being swept downstream and the baby cheetah didn’t know how to swim. He rescued the cheetah but slipped and got caught in the tide.
Soon Leo was heading for the waterfall. The cheetah went to find help and all the animals that Leo had been kind to came to his rescue. They linked themselves up with their tails and paws and the elephant tied his truck to a tree. Together they got Leo out of the water. So they learned that if you have love you have everything.
We sang “Going On a Lion Hunt,” and the kids enjoyed making a lion with glue and colored macaroni.
Friday we had Patricia Pilkington; Kaylyn Davis; Mamie and Carley Norman; Nathan, Aiden and Courtney Scerbak; Lilli Cate Anderson and Marilyn Brown.
