The Program of Research and Evaluation for Public Schools has announced the winners of the 2020 Value-Added Awards.
Winners included Eupora High School in U.S. History and Biology I, and East Webster High School in U.S. History.
An awards luncheon and ceremony was held March 6 at Hattiesburg’s Lake Terrace Convention Center in conjunction with the PREPS/MAPE (Mississippi Association of Partners in Education) Partnership Conference, which celebrates achievements and collaborations in schools.
Representing the Webster County School District at the awards luncheon and ceremony were EHS teachers Kimberly Cummings (U.S. History) and Christie Stroud (Biology I), EWHS teacher Lavelle McAlpin (U.S. History), Superintendent Brian Jones, and Director of Federal Programs and Curriculum Sue Anne Boatman.
The PREPS Value-Added Analysis began in June 1997 and allows for valid comparisons of educational performance on the prior year’s state testing while considering the impact of differences in the socioeconomic background of the students considered in the research.
The model is used in the PREPS value-added awards program and identifies these value-added performing schools among Mississippi public school districts who are members of PREPS. Schools deemed as adding value are those performing significantly better than other schools with comparable socioeconomic circumstances.
PREPS follows the mission of actively providing research and evaluation for public schools. This year, school district ACT average test scores were recognized along with third- through eighth-grade English Language Arts and Math tests, English II, U.S. History, Biology I and Algebra I tests.
PREPS is housed at William Carey University in Hattiesburg. This year the Value-Added Awards were sponsored by IMPACT Education Group.
