Last Tuesday, members of the Louisville community showed up in large numbers as the school honored the 67 members of the 2018 Louisville Wildcats state championship football team during a ring ceremony held in the school's auditorium
Louisville defeated Poplarville 25-20 last December in the MHSAA Class 4A state championship football game at the University of Southern Mississippi's M.M. Roberts Stadium.
The win gave Louisville its ninth MHSAA state title in football. The Wildcats have never lost a championship game in nine attempts.
"We had several people come out from the community, which was great to see," Louisville principal and athletic director Hilute Hudson said. "It was really, really special... We hadn't won in 4A since 1995, so not only was it No. 9, it was the first one in 4A since 1995."
Louisville went 15-1 last season and ended the year on a 14-game win streak. Hudson said strong community support further validates the players' dedication to their craft.
"Number one, it just lets them know that the community has appreciated what they and the coaches have done," Hudson said. "But bigger than that, it lets them know that the community is very, very supportive of them. They showed up in big numbers"
