Louisville acknowledged the achievements of its student-athletes last Thursday with the inaugural PowerCats Choice Awards ceremony and annual athletics banquet. Wildcat players hit the red carpet ahead of the event for pictures and interviews before settling into the school’s auditorium.
The PowerCats Choice Awards, some of which were voted on by the Louisville community, included a number of categories, including comeback player of the year, girls’ leader of the year and coach of the year.
MHSAA Class 4A football championship game offensive MVP Deonte Yarbrough was named comeback player of the year. Wildcat football player Ashanti Cistrunk collected the boys’ leader of the year award, while Alvius “Markie” Haynes was tabbed boys’ breakthrough athlete of the year.
Elijah Wilkes’ game-clinching, last-second field goal against Noxubee County was selected play of the year.
Players from Louisville’s state championship girls’ basketball team were honored as Iitasha Paty was voted girls’ leader of the year. Ajira Thompkins was named girls’ breakthrough athlete of the year. Kenyon Ross was honored as coach of the year.
Louisville boys basketball player Tequavious Bragg was voted most valuable PowerCat.

The PowerCats Choice Awards gave fans the opportunity to vote for a number of the award winners.
