It was a time of joy and deep emotions as family, friends, coworkers and well-wishers gathered at Louisville City Hall Wednesday afternoon, June 30, to celebrate the career of retiring City Clerk, Babs Fulton, and to celebrate her as a person. Fulton has chosen to move into retirement after serving 20 years as City Clerk, and more than 35 years of public service. Fulton thanked the people of Louisville who elected her to the office for four consecutive terms, before state law made the position of city clerk an appointment. She stated that it had been a privilege to serve the City and expressed her love for the people of Louisville, adding that she had been blessed, and she gave God the glory for all of those blessings. And she acknowledged that it was time to step aside and allow the newly-appointed City Clerk, Wanda Hudson, to take over.
Mayor Will Hill stated that his was a joyful, yet difficult responsibility, as he read a proclamation on behalf of City leadership past & present, thanking Fulton for performing her duties with dignity, integrity, and a love for the people that is second to none, adding that she had always embraced change with a positive outlook and an encouraging smile.
Current members of the Board of Aldermen, Gwenita Mays & Eugene Crosby, and newly- elected alderman and former Chief of Police, L.M. Claiborne, expressed their deep appreciation for Fulton, with Mays stating that it was truly a bittersweet moment. Economic Development Director, Glen Haab, thanked her for all of her hard work in helping to move projects and the City of Louisville forward.
A time of food, fun and fellowship was enjoyed by all who came to celebrate the career of Babs Fulton.
