Winston County Chief Deputy Keith Alexander, reported that escaped prisoner Demarquese Gibson, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, June 23, between 2 and 2:30 p.m.
Gibson had been transported from Philadelphia to the Winston County Regional Correctional Facility the previous afternoon, and was able to escape from the police vehicle just before it pulled into the sally port gate at the facility, at around 4:30 p.m.
Alexander stated that Gibson had been charged with grand larceny auto theft by Philadelphia Police Dept. Philadelphia PD has a contract with Winston Correctional Facility to house their prisoners.
Gibson was eventually located in the woods off Brooksville Road, past Grace Christian School. Assisting Winston SO in the search were Louisville Police Dept., Choctaw Sheriff’s Dept., Mississippi Highway Patrol, MSU Police Dept., and Mississippi Dept. of Game & Fish. Philadelphia Police Dept. did not participate in the search.
