After dropping a pair of games each in the J.Z. George Tournament last week, the Tigers and Lady Tigers of Noxapater High School were anxious to return to their home gym this week to continue the young basketball season.
Noxapater was set to host Clarkdale on Tuesday, then entertain Hamilton on Thursday, in a game that was moved from its previously scheduled Friday night spot due to the MSHAA Class 1A Football Playoffs that includes Noxapater.
The Noxapater girls fell to Class 4A Kosciusko on Thursday in the round-robin event at JZG, before losing to the host Lady Jaguars 44-30 on Saturday.
Rayvyn Wagner scored nine points to lead the Lady Tigers against Kosciusko, while Asia Glass had 11 points to pace Noxapater against J.Z. George.
The Noxapater boys, who are playing without members of the football team, lost to Kosciusko 88-13 and JG 66-19. Bryan Glass scored seven points to lead Noxapater against Kosy and six to lead the team against JZG.
While his team only has seven players at this point, Noxapater head boys coach Jonathan Pope said playing the games holds importance.
“They are getting experience they may not have gotten,” Pope said. “It was good for them to get out on the court and compete.”
