Teamwork, family, caring. All of these are ideas that are highly valued at Winston Plywood and Veneer, and in an effort to show how highly they value their team members, on Thursday and Friday, August 15-16, WPAV in conjunction with Louisville Medical Clinic conducted free health screenings that were available to all of their employees. It was the first annual health fair to be conducted by the company.
The screenings lasted from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. each day, and WPAV CEO Bruce Warren stated that about 150 employees had been screened on the first day and felt that more than 50% would take advantage of the opportunity.
The screening began with a simple vision test, then height & weight, BMI (body mass index), blood pressure check, blood sugar test and more. Warren said, “We are trying to create a family, team effort and this is part of it.” He added that it took time to create that environment, and one way is to continue to engage with the team members.
According to Brooke Eaves, Louisville Medical Clinic Administrator, the Clinic was invited by WPAV to participate in the Health Fair. Eaves said, “I appreciate being chosen as the premiere medical to come and do this for them.” Eaves added that they have a great team that is always ready for community outreach, and it is great for their morale, as well.
Eaves continued that the turnout had been excellent, with more employees taking advantage of the screenings than had been anticipated, especially since this was the first annual event.
It was stated that a healthy workforce is essential in today’s economy, and the screenings were an attempt to help employs keep abreast of very important health issues.
Insurance personnel were on hand, as well as a representative from Mitchell Dental. Warren stated that the Health Fair would very possibly be expanded next year to include more testing, and more vendors.
