Some 14 months ago local residents, Jeremy & Heather Cummins undertook a project of immense proportions as they began the renovation of the iconic Masonic Temple at the corner of Main St. and Columbus Ave. and transformed it into the breathtakingly beautiful Mason Boutique Hotel. The journey from Masonic Temple to Mason Boutique Hotel culminated on Tuesday afternoon, August 6 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the hotel attended by a large group of friends, community members and well-wishers.
Owner, Jeremy Cummins said, “It has been a very long journey, very rewarding but it’s been a long one. We are about 14 months into it but taking a 96-year-old building and turning it into this, we knew it was going to take time.”
He stated, “Our inspiration was what can we invest back into Louisville to help advance our Main Street and local community.” Cummins added that the hotel was something that can’t be found anywhere else in Louisville, and probably not even in the surrounding counties.
The hotel boasts four king suites and three queen suites, a gathering room and a grand ballroom with a full catering kitchen. The main entrance is on the Columbus Ave. side of the building, and a chair life entrance for the handicapped on Main St.
Much of the work was done by Cummins’ father, Lester Cummins who went to great effort to preserve and reuse as much of the original woodwork and moldings as possible.
At the ribbon cutting Cummins said, “It has been a labor of love, and we came in with a a big vision. We are excited to open the Mason Hotel, and we look forward to it being something for many years that our community gets to enjoy.”
