The Winston Cattleman Association (WCA) kicked off 2020 with strong attendance to the first of eight scheduled educational programs. The program on this past 23rd addressed the need to protect herd’s health and minimize stress on cattle through the various ways available to control parasite, and fly issues facing producers. The program was carried out by the Neshoba County COOP’s managers Richard, and Ricky Goldman. Both are cattleman themselves, and did a great job educating Winston producers.
In addition to an informative program, WCA introduced two new board members Mr. Ty Fulton, and Corey White. Both are native to Winston County, and are active cattle producers. Their advice and leadership will be valued and appreciated by association members, and Extension. Without a grassroots effort to prioritize issues, and concerns by local cattle producers the WCA efforts would not have the significant impact needed to carry out the mission of our county association.
When it comes to the WCA mission, a common question asked by local cattle producers not in the association is, “What does the WCA do?” To answer this frequently asked question the WCA board of directors decided to unveil a “Mission Statement” unique to the Winston association.
A Mission Statement is defined as: A formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual. Through much thought and consideration by the WCA board, a mission statement was developed based on this definition, and the questions: Who’s WCA for? What does WCA do? Why become a member?
With this criteria, it was clear this Mission Statement encompassed what WCA is all about, and states: “Winston Cattleman Association, providing knowledge, education, and experience to local farm families ensuring cattle and community growth.” This one sentence makes clear the WCA mission, and answers who, what, and why you should consider becoming a member.
The WCA is in a very exciting period of growth and development. This year will bring forward some extremely valuable educational opportunities, and chances to network with leaders within our county, and in the farm industry. If you think the WCA will help you fulfill your farm’s mission, give me a call.
