Residents of Weir will soon return to the voting booth following the recent announcement of the resignation of the Mayor.
The town of Weir will conduct a special election Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 7:00 o’clock A.M. until 7:00 o’clock P.M at the Fire Department, 46 Ann Street, in Weir.
Weir’s Mayor Danny McNutt resigned at the Weir Board of Aldermen’s most recent meeting March 13 at the Town Hall.
Any person desiring to be a candidate for the office of Mayor of the Town of Weir must file their petition with the Town Clerk, Town Hall, 360 Front Street, Weir, MS 39772 no later than 5:00 o’clock P.M. Wednesday, April 4, 2018. The Petition must be signed by fifteen (15) qualified electors of the Town of Weir, Mississippi. There is no qualifying fee to run for this office and petitions are available at Town Hall at no charge.
If no one candidate receives a majority of the votes cast in the April 24 election than a run-off election will be held, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 7:00 o’clock A.M. until 7:00 o’clock P.M at the Fire Department, 46 Ann Street, in Weir.
City leaders are encouraging citizens to register to vote and any interested and qualified persons to seek the public office.
