Unlike other youth that head to the beach during the summer to swim, Louisville youth, Julius and Robert Culwell, headed this past weekend with their horses to Pensacola, Florida to compete at an American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) breed sanctioned horse show, the Northwest Florida Quarter Horse Association (NWFQHA) June Jubilee Show.
The Culwell brothers at the show proudly represented their state winning multiple circuit awards with their two AQHA horses, How D My Valentine and Famous N Fancy. Older brother Julius won a circuit award in youth reining and youth pole bending, while younger brother Robert won a circuit award in youth trail and youth barrel racing.
Julius’s success competing with his 23 year old mare How D My Valentine in AQHA sanctioned shows resulted in the pair qualifying for the 2019 American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Championship Show this August in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
This is the second year in a row that the horse-rider pair has qualified for the AQHYA World Championship Show.
This year Julius is a youth state qualifier in Level 3 for showmanship 14-18 years old, barrel racing, and pole bending. He is also a youth national qualifier in Level 2 for pole bending and stake race and in Level 3 for stake race.
For those that want to see more of the brothers competing with their horses, photos of the brothers and their horses have been spotlighted in two new workbooks on animals by Kendall Hunt Publishing Company (https://he.kendallhunt.com/) called Companion Animal Management: A Guide to Pet Selection & Care and Careers in Animal Science: A Guide to Finding Your Dream Job.
