U.S. Congressman Trent Kelly is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Congressional Artistic Discovery Contest.
Winners were selected from more than 100 entries that were submitted by students living in the 22 counties that make up the 1st Congressional District.
The winners included Winston Academy senior Sidnie Hunt, who placed second.
She is the daughter of Chance and Dawn Buford Wade of Starkville and Jerry Joe Hunt of Sturgis. Her mother is a native of Eupora, and Sidnie is the granddaughter of Joyce and the late Randall Buford of Eupora.
Kelly’s staff hosted a ceremony for the winners on April 22 at Itawamba Community College’s W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center in Fulton.
The annual competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. Winners from across America will be honored during a reception to be held in Washington in June.
The first-place winner’s artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol along with other winners from across the nation. The additional winners’ artwork will be displayed in Kelly’s field offices located in Farmington, Tupelo, Columbus, Hernando and Eupora.
