The raising of the 12-story Cross of Christ will occur anywhere between 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (approximate time) Thursday, July 11, at the cross site.
The Raising of the Cross will occur on Thursday but the exact time that morning cannot be stated because of construction estimate progression.
A ceremony will begin at noon. Prayer, singing of the hymn “How Great Thou Art” and the presentation of the American flag by a Woodmen of the World representative will occur for a 10-minute service.
After the brief service and the cross is raised, free barbecue sandwiches and watermelon will be available for all attending in celebrating our Lord and his wonderful provisions and love, mercy and grace in giving our area — Choctaw, Webster and surrounding counties – the memorial 12-story cross.
When the cross is viewed, may Christians be reminded of the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ and unbelievers be drawn to the cross by the Holy Spirit for hope and belief in Jesus.
More finishing construction will be done on the cross after this date but the highlight of the cross construction is the raising.
As Mike Rozier, construction company leader for the cross stated, “Every time I stand and watch a cross being picked up to go vertical, it is as if I am watching my Savior rising from the grave. It is an experience I never forget.”
Please come join us at the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 9 for celebrating the Raising of The Cross of Christ. Tents will be there but all are encouraged to bring your own lawn chair. May All Glory Be to God!
