TOWN AND COUNTY: Miss Edna Douglas, who has been teaching in Choctaw county for the past few months, is spending this week with Dr. and Mrs. T. O. Douglas. She is enroute to her home at Bentley. - Mr. Auvergne Williams left Tuesday for Bell Buckle, Tenn., where he goes to enter Webb’s School. Auvergne is one of Eupora’s brightest and best business boys and will have no trouble in keeping pace with any of his classmates. - Mr. S. L. Gentry, one of the cleverest and most prominent citizens of the northern portion of the county, has leased the Bellefontaine Hotel and Mineral Springs and has moved his family to Bellefontaine and assumed the management of that famous hostelry and health resort. No watering place in the State can boast of superior medicinal waters to that of Bellefontaine and as a pleasure and health resort it is an ideal place. - Mrs. E. P. Clayton of Saltillo is spending a few weeks in town, the guest of her sister, Mrs. G. W. Gordon.
FIRST TWO BALES: Eupora has received her first two bales of new cotton this season. The first bale was brought here last Tuesday by Mr. A. B. Hodge, an energetic young Greensboro farmer, who sold it to the firm of Messrs. Hays, Hardee & Company for 8 ½ cents per pound. The second bale was brought in Wednesday by Mr. Aaron P. Jester of Bellefontaine.
PERSONAL MENTION: Miss Mary Bridges of Starkville is spending a few weeks with Misses Addie and Jimmie Elkins. - Mrs. H. H. McKee and Mrs. T. W. Ford left Wednesday for a visit to relatives at Slate Springs. - Mr. Jos. S. Allen of Canton, who for a number of years edited and published THE PROGRESS, arrived here last Wednesday on a visit to relatives. - Mr. D. H. Goodwin has returned from a few weeks’ visit to his old home at Frederick’s Hall, Va., and has resumed his duties as agent at the Southern’s local office. He reports a very enjoyable trip. - Miss Roxie McKee was the charming hostess at an entertainment tendered her Sunday school class at her home last Monday night. Quite a crowd of young people were present. Games were played, after which refreshments were served, and the occasion was one of genuine pleasure to all.
WALTHALL: Mrs. Crow of Pinto is visiting her mother, Mrs. Stevens, this week. - Miss Georgia Doolittle, who has been visiting Miss Homie Holland, returned home Sunday. - Mr. Charlie Hays is dangerously ill at this writing. - Miss Lottie Smith, who has been visiting Misses Roberts and Lovett for the past two weeks, returned to her home in Vaiden, Saturday. - Ten members were admitted into the M. E. church last week.
ALVA: The drouth that is now prevailing is damaging cotton very badly. - Mr. Snow Taylor has returned from south Mississippi, where he has resided for some time. - Mr. James Wilson has gone to the Delta to try his fortune in that section. - Mr. J. E. Philly and family have been visiting relatives in Carroll county the past week.
