100 Years Ago – September 26, 1919
LOUISVILLE: Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McCully, a 10-pound girl. - Mrs. Mary Metts, the oldest citizen of our town, celebrated her 90th birthday a few days ago. She can still do fancy needlework, play pretty old-time music, and reads her Journal and Bible regularly. - Miss Mosie Parks is now working at the Ten Cent Store where she will be glad to have her friends call. - Mrs. Lucindy Fox and family were made happy last week by the arrival of their son and brother, Sherrill, who has been in France for several months. He is looking in the best of health. He is back in his old position as head Pharmacist at Carr Drug Store.
DEATHS: Mrs. Mildred Ellis Cagle, 21, died at her home in Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 21st, after a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler Cagle had only been united in marriage about three months and her unfortunate death was a sad blow to her devoted young husband. In addition to her grieving husband, she leaves one sister and two brothers to more her untimely death. - Our sympathy goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fair in the sad death of their bright little nine-months-old son, Billie, who passed heavenward on Saturday morning, Sept. 20th, after all that mortal hands could do to relieve him of an illness of short duration.
MARRIAGES: Married, near Seven Forks school house on Sept. 21st, Mr. W. E. Crowell and Miss Ruby Eaves, in the presence of a few friends and relatives, J. D. Hill officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. C. N. Eaves.
Winston County has a new demonstration agent in the person of Miss Elizabeth Johnson of Watertown, Tenn.
NOXAPATER: Mrs. J. A. Land and two children of Texas, are guests of the former’s brother, Mr. J. M. Harris and family. Mr. J. G. Fancher of Austin, Texas is a guest of his brother, Mr. J. M. Harris, as well. - Mrs. Pearl Young, Mrs. Henry Lawrence, Prof. F. L. Bryant and Rodger Kilpatrick attended the Civil Service Examination at Kosciusko this week. - Miss Mamie Kate Lampley left the past week for McLean where she goes to teach in the High School.
75 Years Ago – September 29, 1944
FRONT PAGE: Cpl. Ervin R. Chancellor, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Chancellor of Route 5, has been reported dead as a result of burns in Dutch New Guinea on August 25, 1941. Cpl. Chancellor was an engineer under General MacArthur. The family has received letters of sympathy from both General MacArthur and President Roosevelt.

DEATHS: Funeral services were held in Vicksburg last Saturday for Mr. Kennon E. Ragsdale, husband of the former Miss Linda Dallis of Louisville. Burial was in Cedarlawn in Jackson. He passed away in the Vicksburg hospital on the 23rd, suffering a long time with throat cancer. - Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Noxapater for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Farish Hickman, 71, wife of W. H. Hickman of Moorhead, who died suddenly Saturday afternoon from a heart attack. Burial was in the church cemetery. She is survived by her husband, two daughters and five sons.
LOUISVILLE: SK2/c William A. Strong arrived last week to spend this week with his family before leaving for overseas soon. - Mrs. Harjus Bowie and little daughter Judy spent several days this week with Mrs. Bowie’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Weatherall of Weir. - Mrs. Fannie Cagle arrived home last week after a visit with her daughter, Mrs. G. S. Lowe, in Helena, Ark.
WEDDINGS: Mrs. B. F. Clay of Louisville announces the marriage of her daughter Byrtie to Douglas Means, Yeoman First Class, U. S. N., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Means of Tupelo. The ceremony took place June 28, in Miami Beach, Fla. at the First Baptist Church, Rev. J. Maxwell Cook officiating.
NOXAPATER: Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Fox are announcing the birth of a daughter Sept. 27th. The father is in the U. S. Service, stationed in Hawaii. - Mrs. Annie Dunn is eagerly awaiting a message from her son, T/Sgt. Joe W. Dunn, who was recently released from a Romanian prison camp. He is scheduled to arrive in the States today. - Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Young of Pascagoula visited their son J. L., here on leave, and were week end guests of their mother, Mrs. J. N. Young.
