100 Years Ago – August 15, 1919
LOUISVILLE: Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Caldwell and son motored over from Birmingham, Ala., and are the guest of the former’s mother, Mrs. Margaret Caldwell of Louisville. - Mrs. A. G. Dancy, an estimable lady of Columbus, visited her sons, Albert and Jesse here this week. - The many friends of Dan Doss were glad to see him arrive home last Sunday from France, where he had been as a soldier for quite a while, having gone through some of the thickest of the fighting, but came out without a wound, and with honors.
DEATHS: Mr. J. T. White died at his home near Betheden last Friday, Aug. 8, at the age of seventy years. His remains were buried in Antioch cemetery after a service conducted by Dr. Cody, his Pastor. He had been ill for more than a year. He leaves a wife and eight children, and a brother, Rev. J. H. White. He was a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian U.S.A. church at Webster. A man with above average intellect, he was always public spirited, and favored everything that was for the improvement of his county. He was a good citizen and had many friends.
MARRIAGES: Mr. Milton Huddleston and Miss Claudie Blackwood were married at Chester in Choctaw county on August 5th. The groom is a popular citizen of Choctaw county and the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mr. Dutch Blackwood of our community and is a popular young lady.
NOXAPATER: Miss Jessie Allen has opened up a first-class Café on South side of Main Street. - Misses Minnie and Evie D. Reynolds of Greenwood are guests of Miss Alberta McCool this week. - Mrs. J. H. Wright left Sunday to visit her mother and other relatives in Pennsylvania.
75 Years Ago – August 18, 1944
FRONT PAGE: The 1944-1945 Louisville Public Schools will open Monday, August 28. - On Monday, August 28, Ellison Ridge School will open their 1944-1945 session. - East Central Junior College will open its regular session September 4.
A family reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Sims August 6th. All sons and daughters were present with the exception of Robert Douglas Sims, who is on duty somewhere overseas.
LOUISVILLE: Mrs. Carrie Davis, widow of the late J. Frank Davis, is critically ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Doe Kelly. She has been ill for several months but has taken a turn for the worse in recently days and is not expected to last much longer. - Mrs. J. W. Yeatman, Jr. of Galveston, Texas spent a few days last week with her grandfather, Mr. J. S. P. Carr and other relatives in the Center Ridge area. - Misses Imogene and Martha Jane Earhart left Wednesday on the Rebel to spend a week with Miss Frieda Earhart in New Orleans. - Mrs. W. A. Strong, Jr. and children and Billie spent last week end with Judge and Mrs. Jesse Graham in Meridian.
WEDDINGS: Miss Jessie V. Hutton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Hutton of Louisville, and Dale Goodin of Noxapater were married in the home of Rev. R. W. Ballard, who performed the ceremony.
NOXAPATER: A family get-together of the Crow relatives was held Sunday, in special compliment to their aunt, Mrs. Addie Wooten, who is celebrating her 100th birthday. Mrs. Wooten, who has been somewhat disabled recently, was brought to the gathering, which was held at the little park just south of the Dormitory. It was a very happy occasion with more than thirty in attendance. Many of the relatives had not seen each other in years. Mrs. Addie Wooten enjoyed the gathering more than anyone. A bountiful dinner was served picnic style, and the birthday caked, baked by Mrs. Maddie Crow, was decorated with 100 pink candles. Pictures were taken of Mrs. Wooten blowing out the lighted candles. Mrs. Wooten is the last living member of a large family. Her beautiful exemplary life is an inspiration to all. - Miss Jessie Mae Hensley of Jackson visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Hensley, the past week. - Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Crow are announcing the arrival a charming little girl born recently in a hospital in York, Ala. - Mrs. Ada Carter has returned home from a visit to her children, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hargroves in West Point, Mr. and Mrs. Clanton Carter in Brooksville, and Mr. Kilburn Carter and family in Louisville.
BIRTHS: Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Adams are the proud parents of a son, weighing 8 pounds and 8 ounces, born on Friday, August 11 and named Robert Wayne.
