A number of the town’s businessmen met at the office of the Eupora Bank Wednesday to consider and perfect plans for the piking of a certain portion of the road through Big Black swamp, one-and-a-half miles south of town. It was decided that Eupora citizens would raise funds necessary to complete the pike over one of the most impassable gaps between bridges, about 225 feet.

Miss Zillah Johnson of Hopewell, Miss. returned home Monday after a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith. - Miss Ella Gee of Vaiden, who had been here on a visit to Mrs. Hays, returned home last Saturday. - Miss Annie Ward of Hopewell is here on a few weeks’ visit to her nephews, Messrs. Chas. and Richard Smith. - Mr. Larkin Lamb and family left Tuesday for Aquilla, Hill County, Texas, where they will make their future home. - Mr. W. H. Womack of Hohenlinden has accepted a position with Taylor Bros. for the coming business season, where he will be glad to greet his friends. - The young people of the town enjoyed a pretty entertainment given at the home of Miss Gertie Denton Wednesday night, in honor of Miss Ruby Cooks of Maben. The occasion was a complete success and was highly enjoyed by all present.
PERSONAL MENTION: Miss Mary Harpole left Saturday for a visit to relatives in Winona. - Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nolen left Wednesday for a few days visit to relatives at Itta Bena. - Mr. and Mrs. Burr Fowler and Master Nathan Johnson of Montgomery County are on a visit to relatives in this community. - Mr. J. F. McCain, one of The Progress’ substantial friends of the Ship neighborhood, paid this office a pleasant call yesterday. - Mrs. Henry Alexander and her son, Mr. Henry Alexander, and her daughter, Miss Emma, and Mrs. Belle Johnson of Chickasaw county, are on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Ferguson, a mile east of town.
The annual protracted meeting at the Methodist church at Walthall has been in progress this week, commencing last Sunday. The services are conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Gordon, and the prospects the first of the week were favorable to a general spiritual revival.
Dr. W. R. Sugg will be out of town from next Thursday until the following Monday. Dr. Sugg will visit the Sabougla community in Calhoun county on professional business.
Prof. S. B. Wofford of Mantee, the principal of the Eupora High School for the coming term, arrived in town this week. Prof. Wofford will open his school here on Sept. 1st.
