100 Years Ago – May 16, 1919
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Hollingsworth celebrated their 50th anniversary of their marriage at their home thirteen miles southeast of Kosciusko February 28th. This is the same home to which Mr. Hollingsworth brought his bride 50 years ago, in which they have lived continuously all their married life, and was the home of his father before him. Eight children came to bless this union, of whom six were present. One son, Joe Hollingsworth of Louisville was unable to attend, while one son, Ebb died some years ago. Most of their 36 grand-children were also present. At 2:30 p.m. the bride and groom of 50 years walked into the well-filled parlor, where Rev. A. T. Cinnamond said again the sweet, familiar ceremony, and they repeated those vows of love and fidelity. Attala holds no more worthy and universally esteemed citizens that Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth
LOUISVILLE: The Strand will not show on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week on account of services at the Presbyterian Church. - Mr. A. J. White’s friends are glad to see him improving in health. - Ben Yarbrough, who has been in Indianola for several months, is spending the week with home folks. - Mr. W. A. Garrigues, who has been engaged in building a railroad for the big mill on Lobutcha for several months, spent a few days at home this week. - Col. J. Pink Cagle received word this week that his grandsons, Sam and J. F. McMillin, landed in New York from France recently and they are expected home soon. - Mrs. A. H. Thrall of Memphis is the guest of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. A. H. White

NOXAPATER: Mrs. Kerr of McCool is guest of her daughter, Mrs. H. J. VanLandingham. - Mrs. Emma Locke left Sunday for a visit to Louin and Laurel. - Miss Margaret and Master Donavan Lawrence are visiting their grandmother near Hight. - Miss Loula May McNeel of Handle is guest in the home of her brothers, Dr. Archie and C. C. McNeel. - Mrs. C. L. Green of Louisville was a guest of her mother, Mrs. Tisdel last week. - Mrs. Neppie Estes returned home Saturday from a four-months visit with relatives at Mashulaville.
75 Years Ago – May 19, 1944
FRONT PAGE: Mrs. Henry Hudson received information on her son, a prisoner of war, from Lt. D. M. Marshall, who was a prisoner in the same prison. - Mrs. Linda W. Hill received letters from three different men about her son, Flay, and how he died during the invasion of the Marshall Islands, and where he was buried. The letters were from a Chaplain assigned to his unit, an Infantry Captain, and a best friend who had been in the same unit with Flay since they entered the Army.
DEATHS: Funeral services were held Friday at Noxapater at the Methodist for Mr. Clifton Bouchillon, 65 years of age. He was only ill for a short period of time related to a heart ailment. Interment was in the Methodist Church cemetery.
LOUISVILLE: Mrs. Ed Easterwood visited her mother, Mrs. Carrie Davis at Rush Hospital, Meridan, Thursday of last week. Mrs. Davis has been there for two weeks. - Miss Roberta Underwood returned home Wednesday from Houston, Texas, where she visited her brother, Robert Underwood. - Ned Peters of Memphis spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Eunice Peters. - Mrs. Bee Melton and son Ronnie spent last week with their parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Addkison of Hickory. They accompanied them home Saturday.
WEDDINGS: Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Tally of Laurel announce the marriage on April 29 of their daughter Sybil to Mr. John Wedgeworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert I. Wedgeworth of Bay Springs. - Mr. and Mrs. Sam Crowell are announcing the marriage of their daughter Merle to Randolph Brantley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Z. A. Brantley on May 13th at the home of Rev. C. L. Irwin. Miss Elsie Woodward and Hays Brantley were the only attendants.
NOXAPATER: Mrs. Adair Tabor, who has been in Washington, D. C. where her husband was stationed, has arrived here to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Lampley while her husband is overseas. - Mrs. William Bennet and daughter Nancy were Sunday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Boswell. - A number of our citizens attended the Sunday afternoon funeral of Homer Carter at Liberty, following his death at the Louisville Hospital. - Mrs. N. W. Webb is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Woodruff, while Mr. Woodruff is in the Louisville Hospital recovering from an attack of pneumonia. - Mrs. Maude A. Hill of Singleton visited her daughter, Mrs. Jesse White and family first of the week.
