November 14, 1918
The whole town of Eupora rang with guns, bells, dishpans, and every other instrument or device with which a noise could be made on Monday night in celebration of the signing of the Armistice terms presented to Germany by the United States and her allies.
EMBRY: The farmers have taken advantage of the pretty weather by sowing oats. - We were indeed sorry to hear of the death of Arthur Peoples, who died in Camp a few days past. - We are glad to hear that Miss Limmie Shaw is improving after a few days’ illness. - Mr. W. T. Hays and family of Eupora were visiting relatives and friends in the community Saturday and Sunday.
WALTHALL: Mr. D. A. Tabb, who lives near Montevista, captured a few days ago a very large pelican. It measures 7 feet and 10 inches from tip to tip. - Mr. Gene Phillips and family left last Monday for the Delta where they will make their future home. We wish them success. - Mr. Jack Lamb who has been in Texas for several months returned home last Friday.
As we look back over the deaths and sorrows caused by Influenza, there is one victim returning to our minds, that beloved pastor of the Eupora Baptist Church – Rev. Luther Phelps, who passed away at his home at Drew a few days ago.
EUPORA: Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Gwin, Mr. and Mrs. T. Gwin, and Mrs. H. M. Earnest spent Sunday in Ackerman. - Mr. Carl Bagwell, the coach of University Miss. visited homefolks Sunday. - Mrs. Dr. Berryhill returned Saturday after spending some time in Montgomery and other points. - Leroy Tackett left Tuesday for Greenville, Miss. where he takes up position with the Davis Drug Co. - We are glad to hear that Mrs. Lee McGarr of Tomnolen is reported some better although she is yet seriously ill.
The many friends and relatives in this county of Mr. Walter Mackey, who for many years was a resident of Eupora, were grieved to learn of his death in Wetumka, Okla. on the 11th. He was accidently killed in the peace celebration in that town.
November 21, 1918
DEATHS: Mrs. Esther Fergurson, wife of John Felix Livingston, died at the home of her parents near Eupora early Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, with interment in Eupora Cemetery. Mrs. Livingston was about 22 years old and graduated from Eupora High School in the class of 1916. She leaves a husband, father, mother, and an infant child three weeks old to mourn their loss. - Mrs. R. L. Allen, 74, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. F. McKegney of Eupora, Nov. 14th. The burial was in Winona Cemetery, the funeral being conducted by Rev. A. V. Rowe and others. She leaves one daughter and three sons.
