LOCALS AND PERSONALS: J. M. Harris stood the Civil Service examination in Meridian Monday. - That splendid citizen of the Weir vicinage, F. G. Coleman, was in town yesterday. - FOR SALE: One New Featherstone Bicycle at half-price! Call on R. H. Prewitt. - Our good friend J. D. Collum was in town yesterday. - W. J. Malone, who presides over the Antioch school, was in town last Saturday. He has a flourishing school there. - We learn that Mr. Loddy Dobbs has been appointed to a position in the Census Bureau at Washington and will assume his duties there soon. W. M. Kennedy, one of Choctaw’s most successful farmers, was in town yesterday. – Kelly Yates spent a few days at home this week, having been called there on account of the sickness of his mother. Mr. J. H. Johnson assisted P. M. Yates during Kelly’s absence.
STRAYED: My mule escaped from me in Ackerman on Monday, the 26th day of Feb. 1900. Mule is a dark mouse colored horse mule, about ten or twelve years old, about 14 hands high. My Post office address is Double Springs, Oktibbeha county, Miss. Any one returning said mule to me or informing me of his whereabouts will be satisfactorily rewarded. J. W. Ford. The April examinations for teachers will be held as follows: At Ackerman, for white teachers, 20th and 21st; for black teachers, 27th and 28th. Examinations will open promptly at 8 o’clock.
The Sunday School Officers and teachers of Chester charge are requested to meet at the Methodist Church at Chester Saturday, April 21st, at 9:30 a.m. for Sunday School Institute work. All interested are invited.
Z. A. Brantley, Esq., of Louisville, was in town last Friday on legal business. Mr. Brantley is one of the most brilliant young lawyers in this section of Mississippi, and withal one of the most refined and genial young gentlemen we ever met.
Mr. E. J. Sommers, the tank man, has brought us under many obligations for a bound copy of the Congressional Globe dated 1852. We are much obliged to Mr. Sommers for it as he recognized the fact that we would appreciate such a document.
STRAYED OR STOLEN: From my farm on the 5th day of April, 1900, a dark bay mare, about three years old, dark mane and tail. Last seen Thursday evening near Ackerman. Any information leading to her recovery will be properly rewarded. Any one knowing of her whereabouts can convey information to the RECORD or W. W. Kellum, Dido, Miss.
