For Mississippi State University students that have an interest in horses, the MSU Horseman’s Association is a perfect club for them to get involved in local horse-related activities. Although the club is based in the Animal & Dairy Sciences Department, it is open to all students. One of their annual horse-related activities is their open horse show. In fact, this year was the second year the club has offered their spring open horse show, the Southern Bulldog Classic. The show took place this month at the Louisville coliseum. The show was a fundraiser for the club, the Golden Triangle Rescue, and the MSU Therapeutic Riding Program. The show offered a variety classes including halter, pleasure, gaited, and speed event classes along with photos being taken throughout the show by professional photographers Blayne Stewart and Cachel Caldiero. The entries in the gaited classes more than doubled from last year and included local trainers such as Mr. Mike Etheridge. Even the classes offered during the show more than doubled along with the class sponsors. Due to the growth of the show, the club plans to continue hosting the show each spring in Louisville. Further details concerning the MSU Horseman’s Association and future events they will be hosting can be found on the club’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/msstatehorsemens.
