On June 12, Louisville Mayor Will Hill addressed the Louisville Municipal School District Board of Trustees, updating them on several projects that are in progress around the city. One of the largest projects is construction of a community safe room, at the corner of N. Columbus Ave. and College St., across from Fair Elementary School, which should be completed sometime in December.
Hill also spoke about construction on the new playground at Ivy Park, and the renovation of the Strand Theater, the proposed construction of a four-way stop with crosswalk at the intersection of Columbus Ave. and College St.
He also requested that the Board consider paving the track around the football field at Eiland Middle School, as it is utilized by the community. He added that the city could assist with some lighting around the track.
In other action, the Board:
? Voted 5-0 to approve the consent agenda which included:
? Approval of staff recommendations for the 2018-2019 school year.
? Approval of staff re-employment for the 2018-2019 school year.
? Approval of a donation in the amount of $1.13K from Wepay to LHS football team to help pay for a trip to Florida in August.
? Approval of staff resignations.
? Approval to pay Jesse Roberson as School Resource Officer, $37K for 220 days for the 2018-2019 school year.
? Voted 5-0 to approve May 2018 bank balances and financial reports.
? Voted 5-0 to approve vendor list that doesn’t require a purchase order.
? Voted 5-0 to approve transfer interest earned on the payroll clearing and accounts payable clearing accounts for the year.
? Voted 5-0 for approval to fun claims on the 10th and 20th of the month.
? Set date for a budget hearing on July 25 at 8:30 a.m.
? Voted 5-0 for approval to remove Ken McMullan’s name from the district bank accounts and add Dr. Randy Grierson’s name, and remove Jawana Young’s name from the Eiland Middle School’s bank accounts and add Cynthia McDonald’s name effective July 1.
? After hearing from Steve Roberts of Renasant Insurance, voted 5-0 to approve Gallagher Insurance for property/casualty insurance for the 2018-2019 school year.
? Voted 5-0 to approve the following school resource officers, at a cost of $37K for 220 days: Mark Gregory, Nanih Waiya; Jimbo Lovorn, Noxapater; Marjie Bell, Eiland Middle School.
? Voted 5-0 to cancel a .33 acre residential lease on Bradley Reynolds on 16-13-12 (Noxapater).
? Voted 5-0 to cancel a 6 acre hunting lease on Roxie Loving and Angela Sanders on 16-14-12 (Center Ridge).
? Voted 5-0 to make a $700 payment to Isaac Goforth for a shooting house that was burned during a prescribed fire by the Mississippi Forestry Commission on 16-13-11 (Liberty).
The next regularly scheduled School Board meeting is Tuesday, July 10 at 5:30 p.m.
