A man from Kemper County is facing life in prison after being arrested earlier this week on allegations of sexually assaulting a Winston County child.
Terrell Patty, 45, was booked into the WCCRC facility after being arrested by the Winston County Sheriff’s Office. The accused has been arraigned and is in custody under a $50K bond.
The assault took place at a residence on Burrage Rd., on Tuesday evening, June 12 at around 7:30 p.m. The victim and another juvenile were playing outside, when Patty took the victim indoors where the assault occurred. Patty was believed to be staying with a girlfriend who lived in close proximity to the victim.
The victim, a child under 14, was brought to John C. Stennis Memorial Hospital in DeKalb where deputies were called to interview her.
Patty is a convicted felon from 2013 conviction on child abuse charges.
Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh said, “He did admit that he had sexual relations with” the victim.
A charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
