The summer months see one of the biggest drops in blood donations at a critical time when blood usage goes up. Be a Summer Champion and make sure that your area hospitals are fully stocked with life-saving blood. Your donation this summer will help out with the 20% drop in summer donations.
Donate blood on Friday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Winston County Library-Community Room, 301 West Park Street, Louisville. As always, all blood types are needed. However, United Blood Services is always in need of type O negative red cells. Type O negative blood is the only type that can safely be given to patients of all blood types. .
Donors can also visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org the day of their donation and click on the “Health History Questionnaire”. This allows donors to complete the interview portion of their donation on-line, in the privacy of their home or office. Make sure to print your “Fast track donation ticket” and bring it with you to your donation. The questionnaire must be completed on the same day that you donate.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. Donors also earn points in our “Hero in Me” online rewards store. Headquartered in Memphis, Blood Systems’ Southeast Division consists of Lifeblood operations in Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi and United Blood Services (UBS) operations throughout South Louisiana, Mississippi and West Alabama. Together, Lifeblood and UBS must collect approximately 2,000 blood donations each week to support patients at nearly 140 hospitals and healthcare facilities. The division includes 10 donor centers and operates an average of 380 blood drives monthly.
