Choctaw County senior football star Moe Hardin died March 19, three months after he received a liver transplant. He was 18.
Choctaw County athletic director and head football coach Ben Ashley said Hardin never was able to leave the hospital following the transplant three days before Christmas. His death was due to complications from the surgery.
“Moe was a great high school football player who led by example and always gave great effort,” Ashley said. “As a person, he was always respected for his quiet manner and tremendously warm personality.”
As a senior, Moe was a key member of the Charger team that won Region 4-3A and reached the third round of the MHSAA playoffs. He was named to the all-region team at middle guard after being credited with 106 tackles, including team leading totals of 16 tackles for losses and 10 sacks. He also recovered four fumbles.
