July 9 was the last Summer Reading Program for 2019 at the Maben Public Library.
We had the Maben Fire Department with Chief Wayne Yeatman, Adam and Donald Robinson, and the fire safety educator from the state fire marshal’s office, Paige Bailey.
They had a lot of good information about fire safety: make sure your smoke detectors work and change batteries in them when the time changes, have a family safety plan, know two ways how to get out and what to do if your door is hot.
If you live in a two-story home, throw something out of the window where the firemen can locate you or you can buy a roll-down ladder to put out and climb down on.
The children were attentive and listened well.
Then the fun began. The children got to try on helmets and fire suit, which was quite heavy. Then outside to the firetruck to drive and blow the horn. Then Mr. Robinson turned on the water and all the children enjoyed cooling off in the water; some even got to hold the hose!
Prizes were given to the most read. Under age 4 Aiden and Nathan Scerbak tied for first place; age 4-7 Emmalin Burton and age 8-12 was Liam Teasler.
