April 24-30
On Wednesday Donnie Buckner came to see us. We need more of the public to come out and join us for these shows. We have as good as you would see in town here.
Russell Burton came with him and played the fiddle along with his son, who helps bring in the equipment. They too have some for-sure harmony. It was great.
That afternoon was Dollar Bingo Day sponsored by the VFW. When it’s over you see us all lined up at the Coke machine or snack machine!
Thursday the Heavenly Highway Singers came and later that afternoon Debra played our favorite song, “Shake the Devil Off.” She even let me sing a few and tell some jokes. I don’t know if they were laughing at the jokes or me.
Friday us men just sat around while Mary Lee done her thing in the beauty parlor. Which reminds me of Willie. At age 50 you would think Willie would have learned a few things.
Willie was lying on the sidewalk outside the beauty parlor and someone asked, “What happened to you?” Willie shook his head, rubbed his bruised chin and said, “Well, the last thing I remembered was my wife coming out of the beauty parlor. I took one look and said, ‘Well at least they tried.’”
On Sunday we had church with Bro. Hill and Sunday school with Dr. Duncan. That afternoon Bro. Tim Hudson came in and played and led us in singing.
On Monday the Leslies had us visit Israel; that was fun. We all enjoyed getting to know more and we could eat their food all the time. Tuesday we got a real treat: Jessica Horton came in and sang and she did a fantastic job. We were talking all day about it.

May 1-7
Wednesday morning was coffee and doughnuts and keeping us up to date with the local news. Then at 2 o’clock the dining room was full for bingo. That afternoon Crossroads Baptist Youth came in to visit with us.
On Thursday it was National Day of Prayer. Our activity room was full and different ones said a prayer, some from us the residents and others from the staff. Then Jerry Helms helped Bro. Lacey as they sang some great hymns.
It’s getting close to voting time so you better be paying attention to what’s going on around you. Anyone wanting to get elected you might want to visit us. We get to vote just like the rest.
On Saturday we had a special service for our mothers for Mother’s Day. Ms. Sue Robinson brought in her friends. It was a beautiful service and other residents loved it as well. They also gave every mother here a flower that was donated by Sara’s Flowers. That was real sweet.
Monday the Community Singers came with their fine harmony and on Tuesday Leslie had a reception for our nursing staff as it was National Nurses Week. We thank all our nurses. We men also got to sit around while the women went on a Mother’s Day outing to French Camp. But that’s OK; next month they will be watching us.
Oh yeah, about Willie. At age 60, Willie’s oldest son had become a well-known surgeon. Willie had to have surgery and was on the operating table waiting on his surgery by his son.
Just before he was being put to sleep he told Willie, “Don’t worry son; don’t be nervous and do your best and if something happens to me it’s OK, your mother is coming to live with you and your wife.”
