Another Rotary year of service wrapped up in Winston County for the Louisville Rotary Club.
The fiscal year for the Rotary Club runs from July 1st to the end of June each year, and Julie Cunningham is wrapping up her term as President of the Louisville Rotary.
Cunningham is only the second woman to hold the position. (Judy McLeod was the first woman to hold the position in the local club’s almost 87-year history in 2017-2018).
Julie was asked about her experiences as serving as the 2nd female President of the Louisville Rotary Club.
What is your proudest accomplishment as Rotary President?
“I was very pleased that we began recognizing a Student of the Month from our area schools. I believe that it is important for us to engage our young people in developing their leadership skills.”
What things did you implement that you hope the club continues?
“I hope that the Student of the Month program will continue. One of my favorite things about Rotary is the Four Way Test. I hope that reciting this at each meeting continues.”
What did you learn from the experience?
“Serving as President has reaffirmed my belief that our Community has many needs. Rotary Club is a service organization. I’ve learned that our Rotary Club has many members who see the needs of our Community and are willing to help others.”
Would you serve as president again?
“Yes.”
Speedy Calvert was named the new President of the Club effective June 21 at the Club’s Annual banquet. Of course, women leadership will not fall off as Brooke Eaves is in line as vice president to take over in June 2020.
Also, recognized at the banquet were Steve Anderson for 35 years of perfect attendance and Johnny Fair taking home First Place In Program of the Year with the program presented by Mississippi State Basketball Coach Vic Schaefer.
Speedy Calvert was awarded Second Place Program of the Year with Jeffrey Rupp, Entrepreneurship at MSU and Ken McMullan received third place in the Program of the Year with Jay Perry of MSU Athletics.
