Thank you Choctaw, Webster and surrounding area folks for such excellent support for The Cross of Christ. As God has so richly blessed all of us, we are serving to glorify him through The Cross of Christ project.
Several community residents were asked what the cross and Cross of Christ project means to them.
Sen. Gary Jackson states, “I believe the cross at Winona has been an inspiration to thousands of people and I believe the Cross of Christ at 9 and 82 would be the same. I continue to support ‘Christ’s Cross at the Crossroads’ at Winona and I am so excited about our project, The Cross of Christ in our area.
Brother James Hill, Eupora Church of Christ, reflects, “To some in the New Testament, the cross meant shame and reproach. However, to me, the cross is hope, happiness and because of Jesus, a home in heaven one day.
Karen Tabb of Walthall Baptist Church states, “The Cross of Christ … to me, it is a BEACON, a beacon for the downtrodden, the weary, the heavy-hearted. It is a beacon of peace, overpowering comfort, and most of all, LOVE, the overwhelming Love of Jesus Christ. The Cross of Christ will be a beacon, reminding all of his love, grace and mercy. Additionally, it gives me a feeling of tranquility, peace and comfort. The cross says to me, ‘Open the eyes of your heart as well as your physical eyes so that you might see Jesus in his complete glory.’
Cherry Salley, Ackerman Church of God, reflects, “The Cross means salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ because the Bible says there is only one way to get to heaven and that’s through the blood. That’s what the cross represents to me … my salvation and my freedom of worship. This means everything. Without the cross we would have no hope whatsoever. It is the cross and shed blood of Jesus Christ that gives us eternal salvation.
Ellen Sheedy of The Cross of Christ area explains, “The cross shows me God’s love for me. He sent his only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sins. Then, he rose again — defeating sin and death! He knew no sin, but became sin and took our place. Those who follow him are forgiven and I am so thankful I chose to follow him. I’m so thankful he loves me unconditionally.
Lawrence and Martha Caradine from Pottery House of Prayer in Weir reflect, “The cross shows us the depth of our sin. It represents our Savior’s substitutionary death. And, it means different things for each individual. The cross means life not only death.”
