A recent Gallup poll shows nearly six in 10 retirees rely on Social Security as a major source of income.
But where are retirees getting the most money from Social Security? New research by New York financial technology company SmartAsset shows Webster County residents are receiving among the highest annual Social Security payments in Mississippi.
In the annual study, released July 23, SmartAsset analyzed Social Security income, cost of living data and taxes across all counties to determine where people are getting the most mileage out of Social Security.
Webster County was ranked No. 8 in Mississippi. The county’s average annual cost of living was estimated to be $17,846, with an average annual Social Security income of $18,833.
The other top counties in Mississippi were Lamar, Franklin, DeSoto, Rankin, Madison, Carroll, Lafayette (1-7), Jackson and Lawrence (9 and 10).
The research is a key factor in SmartAsset’s annual Social Security study, which also analyzes cost of living data and taxes, in addition to the annual payments.
