Controllers Generation II and III members and volunteers did not have a vehicle for the annual Touch-a-Truck event at the Travis Outlaw Sportsplex sponsored by Volunteer Starkville but they welcomed renowned artist Micheal Bently of Atlanta to assist them with face painting.
The club dedicated its volunteer time at the April 7 event in commemoration of Child Abuse Awareness Month. Blue balloons, spiders, superheroes — you name it — were painted on the faces of children and adults. Members of the fire department asked if they could get their faces painted in recognition of child abuse awareness.
Pamphlets, ribbons, bracelets, pens and adhesive bandage dispensers were also given away. The club’s theme is “Help the Hurt Go Away.”
The club also participated in events at the International Fiesta Day at Mississippi State University. Both clubs were to sponsor ribbon cuttings at churches.
Special thanks to Volunteer Starkville, Emerson Family Resource Center, Modern Woodmen, Maben Mayor Larry Pruitt and the Mayor’s Health Council members.
