The Choctaw County Circuit Court was held this past February with several sentences handed down and one trial on the docket. Presiding over the term was Fifth Circuit Court Judge George M. Mitchell, Jr.
During this term of Circuit Court, Judge Mitchell handed down the following sentences:
In the one trial on the docket, Jason Ron Brooks was charged with aggravated DUI. Brooks entered a not guilty plea. The jury returned a guilty verdict and Brooks was sentenced to serve a term of ten years with the Miss. Department of Corrections.
Stacy Dempsey was charged with failure to re-register as a sex offender. Dempsey pled guilty and was sentenced to five years in the MDOC with six months to serve and four years and six months of post release supervision.
Lonnie Lee Holman was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Holman plead guilty and was sentenced to five years in the MDOC with three years to serve.
Lonnie Johnson was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of stolen firearm. Johnson pled guilty and was sentenced to five years in the MDOC with three years to serve.
Lataris Robinson was charged with false pretense. Robinson pled guilty to misdemeanor petit larceny and was sentenced to six months in the county jail, with six months suspended for two years.
Dustin Winfield was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Winfield pled guilty and was sentenced to eight years in the MDOC.
