A weekend crash in Choctaw County claimed the life of a young Eupora man.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash around 4:47 a.m. Sunday on state Highway 9 south of Chaney Road in Choctaw County, according to Master Sgt. Criss Turnipseed.
A 2011 black Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on Highway 9 when it crossed the southbound lane, left the roadway and overturned, he said in a press release. Two occupants were in the Jeep.
The driver, 20-year-old Phillip Alan Hendricks Jr. of Eupora, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Choctaw County coroner, said Turnipseed. The passenger, 27-year-old William Gilbert II, was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville with moderate injuries.
Neither occupant was restrained in this crash, according to Turnipseed, who said the accident remains under investigation by MHP.
Services for Hendricks were to be held Tuesday afternoon at Wise-Reed Funeral Home in Eupora with burial in Embry Cemetery.
