With the start of another school year quickly approaching, many Choctaw County children took the opportunity to celebrate at a Back-to-School Field Day this past Saturday, at Glasgow Park. The event was sponsored by the Choctaw County High School Alumni Association, in partnership with Southern Foundation in Starkville.
When the CCHSAA was formed one of the primary goals was to give back to the community, especially the children of Choctaw County. One way of doing that is the Field Day; the 2019 event was the 11th annual.
Children of all ages were welcome at the Field Day which featured lots of fun activities including ring toss, water slide, kick ball, sack races, water balloon races, jump rope contests, hula hoop contests, and much more. In addition, all school-aged children received a free backpack with school supplies. And free food was available to all who attended.
Ackerman Mayor Tim Cutts, District 1 Supervisor Joey Stephenson and District 4 Supervisor John Shumaker spoke briefly about recent accomplishments and upcoming plans in Choctaw County with each one recognizing the importance of the youth and the investments made in their future.
