The Webster County Sheriff’s Department along with Mathiston Police Department conducted a safety checkpoint on Highway 15 in Mathiston the night of June 25.
During the checkpoint, the sheriff’s office said 10 pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk of a vehicle, along with numerous scheduled pills.
After a brief foot chase the driver was taken into custody. He was identified as Joshua Stevenson, 40. As of Friday morning he had been charged with tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and no insurance.
Justice Court Judge Rebecca Ellison set his bond at $5,000 and Stevenson was released on his own recognizance June 26, according to Webster County Jail records.
This is still an active case and more details will be released at a later date, according to the sheriff’s office
