It was kind of smelly at the Maben Public Library Friday. We read “Smelly Socks” by Robert Munsch.
It is a story of a little girl named Tina who wanted some pretty socks but the store close by only had black. The big store was across the river and the bridge was too far.
So she went to her grandfather and asked if they could go across the river in his boat. But the motor on the boat wasn’t working so Tina wanted to row. She said that she could do it because it was easy.
Well, it wasn’t easy and she finally had to sit in the back of the boat and tell her grandfather how to row. When they finally got across the river and to the big store, Tina was so excited that she tried on millions of socks.
Finally she found the perfect pair: red, yellow and green socks. She loved her socks so much that she wouldn’t take them off. She wore them for days and days.
They started to smell so bad the kids at school told her that she needed to wash her socks because they smelled bad. The geese fell out of the sky, the moose fell over from the smell, and ducks, raccoons and squirrels fell over when she walked to school.
The kids at school decided to take her to river and wash her socks. The fish in the river floated to the top and acted like they were dead.
They were so much nicer when they were clean that Tina decided she liked them clean. Then she wanted to go to the store and buy a red, yellow and green shirt but she promised her mom she would let her wash it.
The children painted their own colorful pair of socks and played a game to see who could put their shoes on the fastest. We also played musical chairs and ate Smarties for prizes for all the winners, which was everybody!
