Friday we ended storytime at the Maben Public Library with Leo Lionni’s “A Color of His Own.”
It talks about wanting to be like the others that stay the same color all the time instead of changing like the chameleon does.
The animals were the elephant, parrots, goldfish and pigs. We know what color those animals are but the chameleon changes colors with his background.
He changed yellow on a lemon, purple on heather flowers, stripes on a tiger. Then he decided to stay on a leaf so he would be green forever but when fall came the leaves started changing colors and so did he.
Then he met another chameleon and they decided they would stay together so they would be alike. They were green, purple and yellow, and then one day on a mushroom they were red and white polka dots. They lived happily ever after.
We did a color song where if you were wearing a certain color you would do something that rhymes with that color. We took a chameleon that was clear and put it on different colors to watch it change colors.
Then since this was the last storytime of the year, we went outside and had a picnic of hot dogs, chips, cookies and Capri Suns. The children also enjoyed the playground that is located right behind the library.
