The Town of Weir will hold a special election to fill the office of Mayor, which was left vacant when no candidates qualified to run for the position during the general election held in June.
The special election will be held on Tuesday, August 24, at the Fire Department located at 46 Ann Street. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Any person wishing to be a candidate for the office must file a petition with the Town Clerk, at the Town Hall, located at 360 Front Street, no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3; the petition must be signed by 15 qualified electors from the Town. There is no fee to qualify, and petitions are available at Town Hall, free of charge.
All candidates must pick up their qualifying papers in person.
If no candidate receives a majority of the cast votes, a runoff will be held on Tuesday, September 14.
