The Noxapater High School baseball team has a busy schedule ahead of it next week as the Tigers try to make up for missed work due to inclement weather the past few weeks.
The Tigers are set to host Leake County for a doubleheader on Monday beginning at 4 p.m. while entertaining West Lowndes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The homestand continues on Thursday at J.Z. George rolls in for a 6 .m. contest. The following Saturday, March 21, the Tigers are slated to travel to Sebastopol.
Last Saturday the Tigers dropped a 13-4 decision to Morton, before losing to Puckett 20-9 and Forest 11-1 in the Forest Invitational on Monday. Tuesday’s game with Union was rained out.
Morton scored seven runs in the top of the first and never looked back against Noxapater. Lane Bailey had a triple and two RBIs for the Tigers in the game, while Taylor Buchanan, Chevy Welborn, and Ethan Easley had a hit each. James Kugle recorded four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work on the mound.
Noxapater had a 9-6 lead in the game against Puckett, but gave up 14 runs in the fifth inning. Landon Bailey had a double and single for Noxapater, while Welborn, Lane Bailey, and Jace McAdory all singled. Kugle had two RBIs, while Nick Stone scored a pair of runs.
Landon Bailey had a pair of doubles in the Tigers’ loss to Forest. He also scored the team’s lone run, while Lane Bailey had the RBI.
SOFTBALL
The Lady Tigers dropped a pair of games last week, falling to homestanding Sebastopol 12-0 and losing to Eupora 13-3 in a game played at Ethel on Saturday.
Noxapater is set to visit Nanih Waiya on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. then host Choctaw County on March 20 before facing Scott Central at Sebastopol on March 21.
