To say the Lady Warriors of Nanih Waiya High School were ready for the 2020 volleyball season to begin would be an understatement “We have really been anxious to get on the court and play and it just took some time for them to get settled in and pay their game,” NW head coach Dayna Hunter said. Nanih Waiya opened its season with three matches last week, losing to Neshoba Central and Choctaw County by 3-0 scores on Monday and Tuesday, before bouncing back to take a 3-1 win over Kosciusko on Thursday. The Lady Warriors had two matches set for this week, playing a home-and-home series with Winston Academy on Monday and Tuesday. “We were just still working some things out,” she said. “We had some really good moments, but we struggled with service some and we need to make good passes.” Cheyenne Steen had two kills for Nanih Waiya in the 25-18, 25-20, 26-16 loss to Neshoba Central, while Jaylee Stokes had two aces and two digs, Mackenzie Eaves two aces and a kill, Chloe weeks one ace and two assists and Dallyn Nance an ace and two kills. Jalia Cotton added an ace and two assists for the Lady Warriors. In the 25-15, 26-24, 25-14 loss to the Lady Chargers of Choctaw County Nance had two kills, two aces and a dig, while Eaves had two kills, a dig and an assist. Steen had an ace and two kills for the Lady Warriors in the match, with Weeks getting one kill, two digs, and an assist, Stokes having a kill, ace and dig each, and Cotton coming up with an ace, two digs and two assists. Steen had a huge service match in the 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-11 win over Kosciusko, delivering up 10 aces, while also registering a kill. Weeks had three aces, two kills and five assists, while Nance had three aces, five kills, two blocks and two digs. Eaves added a kill and two assists for the Lady Warriors, while Cotton had four assists to go with an ace.
