Lady Tigers take hoops win over Grace Christian

The highlight of last week’s basketball action for the Noxapater basketball program was a solid 37-22 win by the Lady Tigers over Grace Christian. Marley Joiner poured in 11 points for the winners in that game, while Caroline Swindle added eight. In other girls action Pisgah beat Noxapater 65-44 and the Lady Tigers lost to Union 62-23.

Lady Warriors pick up two basketball victories

The Lady Warriors of Nanih Waiya High School picked up a pair of big wins last week, beating Clarkdale 45-38 on Tuesday and Enterprise 43-41 on Friday. In boys action the Warriors, who still haven’t put their entire team on the floor at one time, lost to Clarkdale 55-31 and Enterprise 59-49.

The Nanih Waiya girls basketball team picked up a pair of wins last week, while the NW boys lost twice as the team continued to work to grow as a team. Nanih Waiya was set to play Clarkdale and Enterprise this week.

Tigers, Lady Tigers have three games each on schedule this week

The Lady Tigers of Noxapater High School built an 11-point half-time lead against homestanding Hamilton last week, then held on for a 45-40 victory. In other action the Lady Tigers lost to Sebastopol 61-32, while the Noxapater boys fell to Sebastopol 47-35 and Hamilton 68-63.

Prep basketball returns to action throughout Winston County

There will be plenty of local basketball action played on the MHSAA Class 1A and private school level this week as Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, Winston Academy, and Grace Christian all return to action. The Nanih Waiya boys took a 44-40 win over Lake just before Thanksgiving behind a 15-point, 11 rebound performance from Izaiah Nicholson.

After a slow start the two-time defending MHSAA Class 1A State Champion Nanih Waiya Warriors began to assert themselves and rolled to a solid 36-3 win over visiting Baldwyn in the second round of the 2020 playoffs on Friday night, setting up a much-anticipated showdown with Biggersville for the North State title on Friday night.

With football still winding down, the Nanih Waiya and Noxapater basketball teams have begun preparation for the 2020-21 basketball season. In fact, the NW boys and girls have both already played games, although the Warriors are just playing with seven players at this point. The Noxapater girls have also played one game.
