The Grace Christian School volleyball team claim a part of what is thought to be school history last week when the Lady Eagles claimed a 3-1 road win over nemesis Choctaw County. “The girls played with the most energy they have had all year,” GSC head coach Jamey Willers said of her team’s 25-18, 22-25, 25-11, 25-22 win over the Lady Chargers in Ackerman. “I was proud of how they did not let their nerves get the best of them. They knew they could play calm and with control, and they did this well that night.” The Lady Eagles followed up that impressive win with a pair of victories in the Winston County Tournament hosted by Nanih Waiya on Saturday. Grace Christian beat Louisville 25-14, 25-10 and Noxapater 25-10, 25-20. This week Grace Christian was set to play Nanih Waiya on Monday and Starkville High School on Tuesday, before hosting a round-robin tournament this weekend featuring GSC, Mt. Zion Christian, Amory Christian, and Winston Academy. In the match against Choctaw County the Lady Eagles served at an 82 percent clip with Anna Howell connecting on all 19 of her serves, with three of those being aces. She also had four kills for the match. Bella Brownlee had 20 assists, while Lenleigh Dobbs had 15 serve receptions and 14 digs. Shelby Morgan had a solo block and teamed up with Howell for another one. The GSC junior varsity took a 20-25, 25-14, 15-12 win over Choctaw County, while the middle school lost a tough three-set match by the score of 25-20, 22-25, 15-5.
